Editorial Policy
Our editorial standards define how we research specs, synthesize seller information, and issue corrections for all published gear guides.
Core Policy RuleWe explicitly separate seller-provided product specifications from our independent editorial interpretation. We do not claim field test results or lab certifications that have not been performed.
Source Use & Spec Analysis
Because budget marketplace listings often contain inconsistent or exaggerated marketing claims, our editorial procedure requires cross-referencing multiple data points before publishing:
- Material Verification: Fabric denier, coating types (e.g., PU vs. silicone), and frame metal alloys are cross-checked against standard manufacturing norms.
- Listing Standards: Discrepancies between product imagery and text specifications are highlighted as potential purchase risks.
- Thermal & Weight Metrics: Claims such as ASTM R-values or ultralight packed weights are evaluated against known material physical limits.
Corrections Standard
Accuracy is essential when evaluating technical gear specs. When errors or updated seller specifications are identified:
- We update the affected specification matrices and advice sections promptly.
- Significant corrections to key metrics (such as tent dimensions or pad thickness) are logged directly within the article text.
